The Pathways Center supports students as they explore their future and their career possibilities. Under the Pathways Center, Career and Professional Development has eight Career Communities offering broad industry categories, including many occupations with similar interests and skills. Each Career Community has a dedicated Career Coach who can meet with students starting their first semester at Emory. These communities offer ways to explore curated resources and learn about different career pathways. While some paths can overlap from major to major, connecting with a Career Coach will allow students to explore career paths that best fit their interests and goals. Students will also learn about events organized to connect them to alumni and employers for internship and job opportunities. They will also have the chance to gain skills and confidence in connecting with employers and alumni from their areas of interest.
Still Exploring?
Exploring majors and potential careers is an exciting journey, especially for freshmen and sophomores who are still discovering their interests. This is a great time to dive into different subjects and activities to find what truly excites you. Here are some recommendations to help you navigate this exploration phase:
- Take Introductory Courses: Enroll in classes related to majors or fields you’re curious about. This will give you a taste of what the subjects entail and help you gauge your interest.
- Review Career Resources: Check out resources like “What Can I Do With This Major?” to understand the various career paths associated with different fields of study.
- Connect with a Career Coach: Schedule a meeting with a CPD Career Coach to discuss your interests, explore potential career options, and get personalized advice.
- Join Clubs and Organizations: Participate in campus clubs or organizations related to your interests. This can provide hands-on experience and help you connect with peers who share your passions.
- Seek Internships and Volunteering Opportunities: Look for internships or volunteer work in fields that intrigue you. Practical experience can be invaluable in helping you determine what you enjoy and where you might want to focus your studies.
