JOB SUMMARY
The role of Legal Intern for the Atlanta Police Foundation’s (APF) Repeat Offender tracking Unit (ROTU) is an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of the mission to address the crime rates in the City of Atlanta through the identification of Repeat Offenders (ROs). The Legal intern will assist trial attorneys with the preparation of cases for trial and are given assignments that expose them to a wide range of prosecutorial functions including research and written memorandum, drafting of pre-trial motions, interviewing witnesses and investigations.
Position requires that Intern must be a Law Student. Participation in trials requires admission under the third-year practice act.
Reporting to the APF Director of Interagency Programs, this role will be a member of the ROTU Task Force and will work directly with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
The Repeat Offender Initiative is a multifaceted strategy aimed at reducing the crime rate of repeat offenders in the city of Atlanta, while enhancing and creating a system of accountability and transparency for Atlanta’s multi-jurisdictional criminal justice system. This private public partnership provides strategic support on various levels from technology and manpower to field intelligence and operational support. This role will be actively involved with APD, the District Attorney’s Office, Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Georgia Department of Community Supervision, the United States Attorney’s Office, ATF, the FBI and other partners. Through hard work and dedication this position will provide wide networking opportunities.
The person in this role will be a third-year law student that is a self-starter that takes initiative, has good communication skills, both written and verbal, in addition to time management skills, and problem-solving skills.
