The AmeriCorps Group Leader implements and develops project based educational, youth leadership, physical education, healthy living, literacy, and arts workshops for a cohort of elementary school participants, Group Leaders will need to balance academic enrichment and leadership development through hand-on projects and theme-based learning that encourages critical thinking.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work with Dreamers in the after-school program (homework help, recreation, etc.)
- Design recreational, arts and developmental activities for youth (sports, games, arts and crafts, theater, field trips, etc.)
- Work with IHAD team and community partners to develop and enhance programming
- Maintain partnerships with corporate & private business sectors; civic organizations, colleges, universities and high schools
- Develop and maintain volunteer recruitment processes using the internet: volunteer websites, social media, college websites, Craig’s List, etc.
- Provide support and management of the volunteers onsite
- Work with IHAD Team to develop and maintain summer programming and curriculum
- Support and assist with special events such as parent meetings, trainings, talent shows, awards ceremonies
- Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum; submit sequenced lesson plans in advance
- Track completion and timely submission of all program reports relative to this position, including but not limited to participant attendance, performance, supply requests, lesson plans and timesheets
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience working with youth under the age of 13
- General knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
