Hiring Undergraduate Students: Posting Non-Federal Work-Study Roles

At Emory, there is no centralized student employment office, however we recognize the need to make campus-based opportunities accessible to students. The Career and Professional Development (CPD) team within the College of Arts & Sciences provides a limited service to assist Emory faculty and staff who are looking to hire undergraduate students for non-Federal Work-Study (non-FWS) positions.

What We Can Support
While the Office of Financial Aid manages Federal Work-Study (FWS) roles, our office can provide limited services to bridge the gap for non-FWS roles by allowing similar postings to be listed in CPD’s career platform Handshake — as long as they are intended for currently enrolled Emory College and Goizueta Business School undergraduates*.

Scope and Limitations

Following our process helps reduce confusion, prevent misuse of the system, and minimize the administrative load required to maintain this service — especially since this work is outside the core mission of our office. We appreciate your partnership in keeping this process efficient and sustainable. To maintain clarity and fairness across Emory’s decentralized system, please note the following:

>> We Post for Undergraduate Students Only
We are only able to post roles for undergraduate students currently enrolled in Emory College of Arts & Sciences and Gozueta Business School*. Posting roles open to students outside this population may result in removal of the listing.

>> We Do Not Post for Other Emory Schools
Our office cannot accommodate job postings that are meant for master’s students in other Emory schools (e.g., Business, Law, Public Health, Medicine, Allied Health*). These students are not served by our office, and many do not have access to view or apply for jobs in Handshake. Connect to these programs directly on how to recruit their students.

If your position is intended for a master’s student outside of schools that also utilize Handshake*, please contact the relevant school’s Career Services Office or Student Affairs Office to find out how to advertise your role. A guide to these offices are listed in the resource section below.

>> Handshake Postings Must Be Emory-Only
Job postings submitted through our office are intended for Emory students only. While Handshake offers a feature that allows employers to post across multiple institutions, we cannot accommodate cross-institutional postings through our system.

Any faculty or staff member who posts outside of Emory or does not follow our posting guidelines may have their Handshake account access temporarily suspended.

>> We Do Not Handle Student Hiring or PeopleSoft Data Entry
Please note that our office is not involved in the hiring process itself or in entering student data into PeopleSoft.

Once you have selected a student for hire, you must work directly with your departmental HR representative to complete the necessary hiring steps, this includes coordinating with Data Services to key the student into the PeopleSoft system.

If you are unsure who to contact, please check with your department administrator or business manager.
