Meet Employers, Find Opportunities

Each year, employers from a wide range of industries connect with Emory students through our career fairs, on-campus and virtual recruiting programs, and employer information sessions. These events bring opportunities directly to you — helping you explore career paths, build connections, and apply for internships and jobs.

Our Employer Relations team works directly with recruiters to organize these events and bring opportunities to campus. Employers collaborate with us to:

Host career fairs and info sessions (on-campus and virtual).
Coordinate on-campus or virtual interviews, which are scheduled and managed through Handshake.
Post open positions for students to apply directly in the system.

  • Do Your Research: Review the list of attending employers in Handshake. Make a shortlist of the organizations you want to visit and read up on their open roles.
  • Polish Your Resume: Upload an updated resume to Handshake and use VMock for instant feedback. Be sure to highlight new experiences such as recent classes, projects, campus clubs, leadership roles, and other activities that showcase your skills.
  • Practice Your Introduction: Be ready with a 30-second “elevator pitch” — who you are, what you’re studying, and what you’re interested in.
  • Dress Professionally: Aim for business casual or business professional attire. Visit the Career Closet if you need assistance.
  • Plan Your Time: For career fairs, map out which employers you want to see first.
  • Test Your Tech (for Virtual): Make sure your Zoom/Handshake Virtual setup works smoothly — camera, mic, and stable Wi-Fi.

1st & 2nd Year Students:

  • Visit employers early to learn about their hiring processes and what skills will help you be more competitive in the hiring process
  • Ask for advice! Here’s a question you can ask to employers “What can I do now as a 1st year?”

3rd & 4th Year Students:

  • Going to the Expo can give you a competitive edge over other students who do not attend.
  • Questions to ask: What should I do to make myself more competitive for your company? Are there certain skills you seek or are there certain classes I should take to become better prepared?”
  • Bring several copies of your resume (more than 1 per company)

Pro tip: The more you know about the company, the easier it is to figure out what to talk about. If you learn an employer values leadership, bring up student leadership roles when you introduce yourself. Do they need a specific skill? Drop it into your introduction.

  • Be Confident and Curious: Approach employers with a smile, handshake (in person), or friendly greeting (online).
  • Ask Good Questions: Show interest by asking about company culture, career paths, or what makes a candidate stand out.
  • Take Notes: Jot down key details after each conversation — it will help you with follow-ups.
  • Respect Time: Be mindful of other students waiting to talk. Keep your intro concise.
  • Follow Up: Send a thank-you email or LinkedIn message within 24–48 hours. Reference something you discussed to stand out.

In addition to fairs and interviews, many employers host information sessions — both on campus and virtually.

These are smaller group settings where you can:

  • Learn about the company in depth.
  • Hear directly from recruiters and alumni.
  • Ask questions in a more relaxed setting.
  • Make a stronger impression before you apply.

Check Handshake regularly for upcoming info sessions — they’re one of the easiest ways to get an inside look at organizations recruiting at Emory.

Tip: Treat every interaction with employers as part of the interview process. First impressions matter, whether it’s a handshake at a fair or your camera presence in a virtual session.

Tip: Come prepared with questions and bring your resume—you never know when a quick conversation could lead to a valuable connection.

Handshake keeps everything in one place — from applying, to scheduling, to attending. As part of on-campus recruiting, many employers set up interview schedules through our Employer Relations team. These interviews—held either in person or virtually—are opportunities for selected students to meet directly with recruiters after applying for positions in Handshake. If chosen, you’ll be able to sign up for an interview time and connect one-on-one with the employer.

For you, this means a streamlined process:

  1. Apply in Handshake to positions tied to on-campus recruiting.
  2. Receive invitations or interview slots directly through the platform.
  3. Attend your interview either on campus in designated interview rooms or virtually from your own device.

Tip: Apply early, prepare thoroughly, and keep an eye on Handshake for notifications about interviews you may be invited to schedule.
