Creating a Tailored Cover Letter
When creating a cover letter, it is important that it is tailored to the specific role and the specific company that you are applying to. You also want to include an explanation as to why you are a good fit for the role and the skillset you have that reinforces this. Here is a breakdown of the do’s and don’ts of cover letter writing!
Do:
- Write a tailored cover letter for each job your applied to even if optional
- Explain why you are interested in the company and the role
- You should have a personal appeal and connection to the company.
- Do attach as a pdf document to your applications
Don’t:
- Write more than a 1-page letter
- Just write a letter re-explaining your work history. The recruiter has your resume for this
- Overthink your reason for applying too much wherein it becomes too challenging to write this letter. It can be as simple as “I am interested in this role because I love the work that your company is doing to help ease the home mortgage process. As a homeowner myself, I wish a company like this was around to support me.”
